About THRF
Tigray Human Rights Forum (THRF)
The Tigray Human Rights Forum (THRF) is an independent, non-political, and non-profit human rights organization based and registered in the United States under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS. It is formed by human rights defenders to promote and protect the inalienable rights of the people of Tigray in Ethiopia and across the globe. THRF envisages to promote and protect fundamental freedoms, social and economic rights. The time this human rights organization comes into existence is in the aftermath of the grave atrocities, and ethnic cleansing committed in Tigray, due to the unfolding war in Ethiopia. Tigrayans living outside the region across the country are also the target of widespread ethnic profiling, mass arrests, enforced disappearances and harassment. Promoting and defending human rights is an essential part of THRF’s organizational mission.
Purpose.
THRF is committed to promoting fundamental human rights.
Moreover, THRF strives to institutionalize the realization of human rights. For this purpose, THRF seeks to:
- To create awareness of the institutional and legal context of human rights in Tigray.
- To ensure the respect of human rights in Tigray.
- To promote and defend the rule of law.
- To Investigate and report human rights violations.
- To Ensure the voices of victims’ heard, and their injury corrected.
- To Introduce transitional justice programs.
- To Establish a human rights research center in Tigray.
Values.
THRF has the following values
- Respect for human dignity and equality.
- Adhering to The principle of universality, interdependence, and indivisibility of human rights.
- Respecting, and promoting diversity and culture of tolerance.
Organizational Structure.
THRF is under the direction of a Board of Directors. Dr. Solomon Mezgebu is Board Chairman, Mitslal Girmay is Treasurer, and Gebrehiwot Hadush is Secretary to the Board. Members are Abeba WeldeTekle, Seyoum Berhe, Chekol Kidane, Mebrahetu KIndeya, Desta Hailselassie, Mulu Beyene, Daniel Tekilu, and Samson Hadgu.
The daily activity is performed by the organization’s departments under the direction of the Acting Executive Director, Getachew GebreKiros Temare.
