During the conflict that began on 4 November 2020 in Tigray – Ethiopia’s northernmost region – troops fighting in support of the federal government have committed widespread rape against ethnic Tigrayan women and girls.

The United Nations should urgently establish an independent inquiry into war crimes and possible crimes against humanity in the region to pave the way for accountability, and Ethiopian authorities should grant it full and immediate access.

Our Mission

THRF is non-political, non-religious and not-profit organization. It is established within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. And in furtherance of this purpose, but not in limitation thereof, the organization shall engage to:

  • conduct investigations and report human rights violations;
  • undertake research on the impact of laws, policies, and practices on the realization of human rights;
  • play a positive role, and create an environment that is conducive to strong implementation, and the achievement of equality of persons within a state of Tigray, and Ethiopia;
  • promote the right of peoples to self-determination, and contribute to the realization the rights to self-determination, as well as civil and political rights;
  • educate the people of Tigray to exercise the rule of law to elect a government through a democratic will of the people.
  • promote and enable free, fair, and democratic election.
  • establish victim centered transitional justice programs.
